Johnson City, Texas: Not Just Another Texas Town

So you find yourself in Austin or San Antonio and not sure what to do. There is so much found in the gateway to the Hill Country that one almost forgets about the beautiful land found north of these cities. It is recommended that if you are looking for something fun to do for the whole family you should really consider traveling about an hour north to Johnson City, Texas. Now why Johnson City? Well there are a variety of activities found here that is sure to please everyone. Not only is there amazing scenery, shopping and great places to eat, but there is plenty of Texan history in this little city. First, it is important to note that this city was founded by the ancestors of the 36th president of the United States, Lyndon B. Johnson. You will be able to visit LBJ Park and see the entire life of LBJ from birth to death. It is a great short trip for this little piece of American History and the park is a great place to visit with the whole family. For another look into the history about the area, make sure to visit the Captain Perry Texas Ranger Museum. This museum is found in the former home of Captain Rufus Perry. He was an early Ranger who was attacked by the Comanche Indians. He was shot by arrows, but still managed to get away and survive and crawl back to San Antonio. It is a truly amazing story of survival that shows the extraordinary feats of the Ranger. It is a very unique place to visit, especially for all those little rangers in the making. Now, if you are not a history buff, Johnson City still has a lot to do. Besides the great shopping and food to partake in, you can enjoy the quieter side of the city with walking tours. If this is more your speed, the Wildflower Loop around the city is a perfect place to visit and see the native wildflowers of Texas. This was Ladybird Johnson’s effort to improve the roadsides of Texas. It is definitely a site to behold in the spring and summer time when the flowers are in full bloom. Or, you can head 9 miles down the road over to the Pedernales Falls State Park. Again, much like all the other cities in the Texas Hill Country, this is a beautiful, natural site to behold. Here, the Perdernales River forms six miles of recreational activities for all visitors to enjoy. There are 21 miles of hiking and off road biking, swimming and horseback riding activities to partake in while you are there. But the most beautiful site to see is where the river runs through the limestone gorge and plummets down two natural rock dams forming a beautiful natural waterfall. It is definitely a place that you will want to spend a day enjoying the outdoors at Johnson City. Another place that you will definitely want to enjoy while visiting in Johnson City will be the Exotic Resort Zoo. Bring your cameras and get a guided tour for an up close encounter with animals from all around the globe. The Exotic Zoo is a place where several endangered animals are able to coexist and allow people to see them all at once. You have the unique opportunity to not only see the animals, but also have intimate hands on experiences with them while visit this Exotic Resort Zoo’s petting zoo. This is one of the most extraordinary experiences that you will encounter on your trip to the Hill Country and definitely a place that you do not want to miss. Wether you are traveling with family, friends, or a companion, Johnson City is a wonderful place to visit. There are so many places to see, things to do and unique experiences to enjoy. It is definitely a place to put on your list when you are visiting the Texas Hill Country.
